The Verb Sein (To Be)
Sein is the first verb you learn and the most important one. You use it for your name, where you're from, your job, age, and how you feel. It's completely irregular, so memorize these six forms from day one.
ich bin·du bist·er/sie/es ist·wir sind·ihr seid·sie/Sie sind
You also use haben (to have) all the time. It's irregular too in the du and er/es/sie forms.

Common mistakes
Germans say "Ich bin 25 Jahre alt" (I am 25 years old), not "Ich habe 25 Jahre." For hunger and thirst, use haben: "Ich habe Hunger" (I have hunger), not "Ich bin Hunger."
Memory trick
Say it like a song: bin, bist, ist, sind, seid, sind. Notice sind appears twice, so you really have five different words.
