Indefinite Pronouns: einer, eins, eine, welche

About 3 minutes · examples, common mistakes, Hindi help and practice with answers

In short

Replace a noun so you don't repeat it. The ending shows the gender; the plural is welche.

Brauchst du einen Löffel? Hier ist einer. · Ich habe keine Gabel. Hast du eine?

Instead of repeating a noun, German uses einer, eine, eins (one) and keiner, keine, keins (none). In the plural, use welche (some) or keine (none).

How it works

  • Masculine: einer / keiner (accusative: einen / keinen).
  • Feminine: eine / keine.
  • Neuter: eins / keins.
  • Plural: welche / keine.
  • The ending matches the noun you're replacing and its case.
