Making Suggestions with könnte

In short
Wir könnten … and Du könntest … make a friendly suggestion.

könnte (from können) makes a friendly suggestion or a polite request: "we could …", "could you …?".
How it works
- ich/er/sie könnte, du könntest, wir/sie/Sie könnten, ihr könntet.
- The second verb goes to the end: Wir könnten ins Kino gehen.
- Polite request: Könnten Sie mir bitte helfen?
Examples
- Wir könnten am Samstag ins Kino gehen. (We could go to the cinema on Saturday.)
- Du könntest auch mitkommen. (You could come along too.)
- Könnten Sie das bitte wiederholen? (Could you repeat that, please?)
- Ihr könntet den Zug um acht nehmen. (You could take the eight o'clock train.)

You don't need the full theory at A2. A handful of forms do most of the work: hätte and wäre for wishes, sollte for advice, könnte for suggestions, and würde or könnte for polite requests.
