In short
trotzdem (anyway) shows a contrast. The verb comes straight after it, in position 2.
Es regnet. Trotzdem gehe ich joggen.
trotzdem means "nevertheless" or "anyway". It links two ideas that don't fit together. It stands in position 1 (or later), and the verb comes straight after it.
How it works
- Trotzdem + verb + subject: Es regnet. Trotzdem gehe ich joggen.
- It can also come after the verb: Es regnet. Ich gehe trotzdem joggen.
- Compare: obwohl (although) sends the verb to the end; trotzdem doesn't.
Examples
- Es regnet. Trotzdem gehe ich joggen. (It's raining. I'm going jogging anyway.)
- Ich war müde. Trotzdem habe ich bis zehn gelernt. (I was tired. Nevertheless I studied until ten.)
- Die Wohnung ist teuer, aber wir nehmen sie trotzdem. (The flat is expensive, but we're taking it anyway.)
हिंदीtrotzdem = फिर भी। इसके बाद verb तुरंत दूसरे नंबर पर आता है।

Both groups join two ideas, but they treat the verb differently. After weil, dass, wenn and ob the conjugated verb moves to the end of its clause. After deshalb and trotzdem it stays in position 2, straight after the connecting word.
दोनों तरह के शब्द दो बातों को जोड़ते हैं, पर verb की जगह अलग होती है। weil, dass, wenn और ob के बाद verb उस हिस्से के बिल्कुल आख़िर में जाता है। deshalb और trotzdem के बाद verb तुरंत दूसरे नंबर पर आता है।
Common mistakes
