Route words: through, across, along, past. gegenüber (opposite) takes the dative.

To give directions you need a few route prepositions. Each has a fixed case.
How it works
- durch + Akk.: through. Gehen Sie durch den Park.
- über + Akk.: over / across. Gehen Sie über die Brücke.
- entlang: along, usually after the noun with Akk.: Gehen Sie die Straße entlang.
- gegenüber + Dat.: opposite. Die Apotheke ist gegenüber dem Bahnhof.
- an … vorbei + Dat.: past. Gehen Sie am Rathaus vorbei.
- bis zu + Dat.: as far as. Gehen Sie bis zur Ampel.
Examples
- Gehen Sie durch den Park. (Walk through the park.)
- Die Apotheke ist gegenüber dem Bahnhof. (The pharmacy is opposite the station.)
- Fahren Sie am Rathaus vorbei. (Drive past the town hall.)
- Gehen Sie die Straße entlang bis zur Kirche. (Walk along the street as far as the church.)

These words describe the route itself. durch, über and um … herum take the Akkusativ. entlang comes after its noun (die Straße entlang). an … vorbei and gegenüber take the Dativ.
